Joe On the Issues

Balanced Growth

We can grow without losing our small-town charm. Growth is inevitable, but it must be guided by smart planning that keeps our community’s character intact. When we plan carefully, we protect what we love while making room for the services and opportunities we need.

  • Empower the Planning Board with more preparation time and quarterly workshops so members can better represent residents.
  • Focus on service gaps, such as teen-friendly entertainment options and senior centers, by working with developers to deliver these amenities.

Strong Economy

A healthy economy means a healthy community. When we strengthen our commercial tax base, we reduce the burden on homeowners while funding the services that make Holly Springs a great place to live.

  • Attract high-wage employers that complement our town’s strengths.
  • Create or restructure a Town staff position to help streamline small business renovations, expansions and/or second locations for small businesses with gross revenue under $2 million.
  • Encourage residents to shop local to keep more money circulating in our community.

Public Safety & Emergency Services

Safety is the foundation of everything we do. As our population grows, so must our capacity to keep people safe. That means maintaining rapid response times and ensuring our first responders have the tools and resources they need.

  • Fully staff Police and Fire to match the town’s growth.
  • Invest in new technology, from upgraded equipment to traffic improvements in partnership with NCDOT.
  • Public safety isn’t only about Police and Fire. It also means, safe streets and transportation options, improved parks and public spaces where families can feel safe and secure.

Supporting Families & Educators

Families are at the heart of Holly Springs. We need places and events where neighbors can get together, kids can play without worry, and community bonds can grow stronger.

  • Expand parks and sports facilities so every family has access to recreation close to home.
  • Add more community events, from seasonal festivals to cultural celebrations that showcase our diversity and spirit.

Promoting Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs

Small businesses are the backbone of our town. When our entrepreneurs succeed, our whole community benefits with more jobs, unique local services, and a vibrant downtown.

  • Assign or create a “business navigator” role to help business owners cut through red tape and find resources.

  • Encourage mixed-use development projects that include affordable retail or office space for local businesses.
  • Prioritize small and medium sized developers.

Preserving Community Spirit

Our sense of community is what makes us unique. We can welcome growth without losing the friendly, connected feel that draws people here in the first place.

  • Support and promote neighborhood block parties, volunteer days, and town events that bring people together.
  • Infuse Holly Springs history into existing festivals and celebrations so residents can connect with our shared story.
  • Maintain strong design and landscaping standards for new developments.

Crossing Guard Program

Student safety is non-negotiable. We need a coordinated, town-backed plan to ensure kids can get to and from school safely.

  • Establish a town-funded crossing guard program at key intersections near schools.
  • Supplement coverage with trained volunteers where needed.

Parks & Greenspace

Green spaces are essential for quality of life. They give residents places to play, exercise, and unwind — and they protect our environment, too.

  • Expand our parks and greenway network to keep pace with growth.
  • Require meaningful green space in new developments to preserve natural areas.

Supporting Seniors

Holly Springs should be a place to enjoy life at every stage. We can make our town more senior-friendly by improving amenities, programs, and accessibility.

  • Expand senior-friendly facilities and public spaces.
  • Partner with nonprofits to offer activities, wellness programs, and opportunities to stay engaged with neighbors and the community.
  • Look at ways to provide relief for seniors who are struggling due to Wake County tax increases over the last 5 years.
